Cinema Florence

The Cinemas of Florence

Florence, Italy is world renowned for its immaculate beauty and timeless architecture. More appropriately, however, Italy has a booming film industry that began between the years of 1903 and 1908. The three major organizations in Italy are the Roman Cines, the Ambrosio of Turin and Itala Film later followed by Milan and Naples. Italian films have a deep-rooted history in the advangarde movement in response to Futurism where the cinematic experience became venues for artistic voices and philosophy.

If you're lucky enough to visit Florence, you will be able to experience the cinematic evolution that took place in Italy. Remember, some of the most beautiful theatres are located in this area and you will need to budget your money to be able to visit them. Try booking the best  Florence Lodging online to offset some of the tourist attractions.

Either way, you will want to make the time or the money to visit these wonderful theatres!

Cinema Florence

Odeon Cinehall

The art nouveau décor of this establishment makes the Italian language films extra spectacular to view. Although they do play Hollywood novelty classics, this theatre is best kept to true Italian cinema. Located near Piazza della Repubblica Square, this Cinehall plays a variety of films daily which is convenient for tourists!

Festival dei Popoli

The Festival dei Popoli exhibits a large range of documentary cinema, focusing on ethnographies and portraits of women and men from all over the world. This international film festival is one of the longest running cinematic events in Florence. It encourages debate and confrontation, along with analytical questioning that pushes the social dialogue into a global sphere. Each film is accompanied by an expert in the field of what the film portrays and is used to help guide conversation into an educational and relevant place. This festival is held annually and is excellent for those worldly tourists who would love to see beyond the realms of Florence alone.

River to River

River to River is the premiere festival of Indian film and features a wide selection of both recent independent and mainstream Indian movies. Directors and producers are from all over the world and the festival also shows classic Indian films that have been successful for years. Similar to other independent film festivals, this Indian extravaganza awards winners in each category through audience reception and likeability (the name of the award is the River to River DigiChannel Audience Award). All the films are screened in their native language with subtitles in English. If you're available for this annual festival it is well worth the visit. Not only can you partake in an awards process, you can see some of the most influential films coming out of India in Florence!

Florence, Italy is a wondrous place full of life and excitement. Adding a little cinematic intrigue enhances the experience!
